The nomination said...

Wayne is currently working in the Adult Community Team in Bury South IDT. Wayne is a ‘larger than life’ character; he is an open, friendly and highly motivated, compassionate individual. Wayne’s background career was serving in the armed forces, he completed tours of duty in many war torn countries including Afghanistan.

Wayne has set up a Veterans Group which meets on a weekly basis and has taken on a veteran liaison role in the team. Wayne has developed this himself with the support of the Team Manager. He is currently building on resources for this group; he is networking and developing relationships with SAFFA, Royal British Legion and other services within the MOD.

Since taking on this role Wayne has made a difference, and feedback from this group is that the veterans do not feel as isolated and have made positive relationships with peers in the group.

Wayne works professionally and positively, his personality and humour are infectious. Service users in his group are able to connect with Wayne due to the shared language used by armed forces personnel.

He has made a significant impact in the team and in promoting service development with his veterans work. He has demonstrated initiative and has made great progress within his current role. Wayne is always positive and has high motivation in making progress for service care and delivery.

He is motivated in taking this group forward; he continues to build on resources and hopes the success of the group could then be discussed with senior managers in expanding this across the locality.
